Irregular Verbs are Easy to Remember - Card Game
Hi!
My name's Kattya, I'm 25, I'm Russian and I love teaching English!
I passed TKT exam 2 years ago and I got CELTA certificate this year.
I'm currently having private lessons at home and I'm moving to Japan very soon.
I'd like to show you how I use cards when I teach irregular verbs. At elementary level most of the students see them for the first time in their life, so it's not easy to memorize all the verbs.
But I've found the way.
So one day I made cards and they are really bright with big neat letters.
Step 1. I usually place the card with the infinitive form on the floor or a table and ask the students to give past and past participle. If they remmeber it from the text they'd read, good, if not - oh well :)
We arrange the cards in rows and drill the whole line like "go-went-gone".

Step 2. I take one card out of the row very quickly and ask them to give me the whole line again.
Due to the visual memory and drilling the students still "see" and "hear" that card and it's easy for them.
Step 3. I take more and more cards away...

And still they are able to say the whole line! Amazing, huh?
Step 3. When you have only several verbs left

you can go backwards, but faster. The students say the whole line, you put the cards back, so that you have the whole set again.

I find this game very useful at pre-intermediate and intermediate levels, too. I use it as a revision and the students love that!
What do you guys think?
